Meet the Founders

Founder  - Board President 

Meghan Cowin

Meghan has been a dedicated sign language interpreter since 2005, with a strong academic background in the field. She earned her Associate’s Degree in Sign Language from Georgia Perimeter College in 2004, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Studies in 2006 and a Master’s Degree in Teaching in 2009. Meghan specializes in the fields of education and performing arts, combining her passion for language and communication to support diverse communities. She has also volunteered with the Georgia Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (GaRID) for several years, serving as both Secretary and Treasurer, where she contributed to the growth and development of the interpreting profession in the state. Outside of work, she enjoys playing soccer and cycling, staying active and energized, which helps keep her balanced and inspired in both her personal and professional life.

Founder  - Vice Chair 

Lori Civello 

Lori Civello is a nationally certified sign language interpreter and educator with a lifelong commitment to bridging communication gaps and fostering inclusivity. A CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) raised in New York City, Lori grew up navigating both Deaf and hearing worlds — an experience that shaped her passion for accessibility.Her love of dance and the arts deepened this drive, especially after witnessing her own parents miss performances due to a lack of interpreting services. That personal reality fuels her mission to ensure no Deaf family faces the same barriers.Today, Lori brings both personal insight and professional expertise to her work with ACCESS ATL, empowering the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and DeafBlind community through accessible arts, education, and community partnerships.

​Board Member - Treasurer

Cassie Martin

Cassie serves as Access ATL’s Board Treasurer, bringing both financial expertise and a passion for the arts to the organization. With a professional background in bookkeeping and operations, she ensures our financial systems are transparent, sustainable, and aligned with our mission of making the arts accessible for all. Her career includes serving as Chief Operating Officer of TenFlow, where she oversaw HR, operations, and financial planning, as well as managing finances for Mainly Baskets Home and Still Family Farm. Across these roles, she developed a reputation for precision, accountability, and strategic planning. Those same skills now guide her stewardship of Access ATL’s resources, helping us build a strong foundation for growth and impact. Beyond the numbers, Cassie is a lifelong dancer and dedicated theater enthusiast. She knows firsthand the joy and discipline of artistic expression, and she brings that creative energy into her leadership. As both a mother and a community advocate, she is deeply committed to making sure future generations can fully experience the arts in inclusive spaces. At Access ATL, Cassie blends structure with creativity—overseeing finances with clarity while keeping the heartbeat of the stage close at hand. Her perspective as both a financial professional and an artist ensures that our vision is always supported with both care and strength.

Board Member

Katie Brien 

Katie Brien is a seasoned theater professional and sign language interpreter with a lifelong passion for the performing arts. Originally from Southern California, she has been connected to theater performance in various capacities throughout her life. After relocating to Georgia, she completed the Sign Language Interpreting Program at Georgia State University, graduating in 2021. In addition to her work as a stage manager, Katie has played a key role in connecting local theaters with qualified interpreters, helping ensure accessibility for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. She also interprets performances herself, bringing live theater to a wider community. Beyond the stage, Katie provides interpretation services within the recovery community, supporting accessibility in diverse spaces.

Instructor - Workshop Provider 

Justin Malone

Justin Malone is a fourth-generation Deaf Family, a first-generation American Sign Language user. (ASL) user native to Georgia. Mr. Malone is a clinical instructor in American Sign Language in the Department of Learning Sciences at Georgia State University. He taught American Sign Language and Deaf culture at Towson University from 2018 to 2020, before joining Georgia State University in fall 2020. He currently serves as the Director of the Deaf Studies program. He teaches several courses aimed at undergraduate students, including beginner to advanced American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf history and culture. Mr. Maone received the outstanding faculty teaching award for undergraduate teaching, where he was recognized for his exceptional achievement in the area of undergraduate teaching. He has been instrumental in curriculum updates across several programs, including bringing the sign language interpreting and undergraduate Deaf education programs under one umbrella. Mr. Malone oversees all part-time instructors who work within the Deaf Studies program and coordinates the annual ASL immersion Weekend, which provides students with workshops on Deaf community members and instructors, all in ASL.

Certified Interpreter, ASL & English 

Richard Brumberg

Richard grew up on Long Island in New York. While in high school, he became close friends with a Deaf peer in a youth group. This sparked his love of the Deaf community and ASL. After earning his BA in English from the University of Rochester, Richard’s original intent was to become a elementary teacher for the Deaf. In 1992, his friends in the Deaf community encouraged him to pursue a career in interpreting. In New York, Richard worked as a staff interpreter for a Deaf-owned interpreting agency. For fourteen years, Richard specialized in K-12 public schools settings in New York, Georgia and North Carolina. He served as Coastal (North Carolina) RID’s Educational Liaison. In Georgia, he worked in conjunction with state departments to help educational interpreters obtain qualification or certification. He was also a former board member (Member At Large) and co-chair of Interpreters in Educational and Instructional Settings for Georgia RID. Since 2001, he has presented locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. Currently, Richard lives in Atlanta, GA and works as a full-time community interpreter. He looks forward to continue working with the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, Deafblind and interpreting communities!

Interning Interpreter, ASL & English 

JR McCall 

JR McCall brings a unique blend of artistry, communication, and lived experience to his work as a theatrical ASL interpreter. A proud CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), JR grew up with ASL as a natural part of daily life, grounding him in both Deaf and hearing worlds. His career path reflects the same bridge-building energy that makes his interpretation on stage not only clear and accurate but also deeply expressive and connected to the performance. With a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in Theatre from Georgia State University, JR has honed his stage presence, storytelling instincts, and ability to capture nuance; skills essential to theatrical interpreting. His professional acting background equips him to embody the rhythm, tone, and emotion of live productions, ensuring that Deaf audiences experience the full artistry of a performance. Beyond the stage, JR’s work as a dance instructor has sharpened his sense of movement, timing, and physical expression, all of which elevate his interpretation style. His years in administrative and customer-facing roles demonstrate his professionalism, adaptability, and ability to thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments. Whether coordinating with production teams, navigating rehearsals, or engaging with community members, JR brings reliability and warmth.

Interpreter/ Deaf Interpreter 

Luke Bundrum 

Luke Bundrum is a Deaf Interpreter native to Atlanta and a high school teacher at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. A veteran performer in ASL shows through Hands In, he has also served as a consultant on ASL scripts and accessibility, helping ensure authentic representation for the community. Recently, Luke began interpreting for live performances and discovered a deep passion for the work. Outside of interpreting and teaching, he enjoys binging TV shows, building LEGO creations, and playing pickleball as ways to relax, recharge, and stay creative. Luke is excited to join ACCESS ATL as one of their Deaf Interpreters, working to increase accessibility and representation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences across Atlanta.With a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in Theatre from Georgia State University, JR has honed his stage presence, storytelling instincts, and ability to capture nuance; skills essential to theatrical interpreting.
