Anchors & Access: Life as a Cruise Interpreter offers a practical, honest look at cruise interpreting—from first email to final disembarkation. Led by New Jersey interpreter Stephanie Kanieski, this 3-hour workshop walks you through the full life cycle of a cruise assignment: deciding if it’s a good fit, applying and negotiating contracts, packing and prepping, navigating ship life, and managing the work itself—shows, muster drills, shore excursions, daily interactions, and Deaf/DeafBlind access at sea. You’ll explore cruise culture, team dynamics, and how to balance professionalism with being a human your team and Deaf passengers actually want to travel with. Throughout, we center Deaf experiences and highlight the crucial role of Deaf interpreters on board. Participants will leave with practical tips, a clearer sense of personal fit, and concrete strategies for providing ethical, effective access while thriving as part of the onboard team.
