About the event
Masterclass: ON Verbs: Building Meaning Through Direction, Space, and Classifiers
Led by Deaf ASL Professor Justin Malone (GSU)
This masterclass explores how verbs in American Sign Language (ASL) use space to create clear, intentional meaning. Participants will examine noun/verb pairs, IN/ON verbs, and directional verbs—both with and without a third-person referent.
The workshop also focuses on how classifiers integrate with verbs to represent nouns, actions, and relationships in three-dimensional space. Through examples and guided practice, participants will strengthen their expressive clarity and develop more precise, natural ASL structure.
Designed for interpreters and advanced ASL users, this session centers on refining verb use and improving spatial organization in signing.
